THE ATHENIAN DANDY / JAKUB ČUŠKA
PL Podczas rezydencji w Mazi Projects w Atenach, zorganizowanej przez Fundację Razem Pamoja, stworzyłem cykl obrazów zatytułowany The Athenian Dandy. Cykl portretów przedstawia mieszkańców Aten, którzy poprzez swój wygląd, styl życia lub osobistą postawę ucieleśniają pojęcie dandysa i odzwierciedlają zjawisko dandysyzmu we współczesnym kontekście miejskim. Projekt bada estetykę indywidualności, elegancji i ekscentryczności jako formy własnej ekspresji oraz tożsamości kulturowej. Obrazy splatają obserwację codziennego życia w Atenach z artystyczną interpretacją ideału dandysa, oscylującego między tradycją, nonkonformizmem a osobistą stylizacją. Jak trafnie zauważa Françoise Coblence w Le dandysme. Obligation d’incertitude: „Dandys stara się przezwyciężyć niepewność nowoczesnego świata poprzez swój wygląd — poprzez codzienną konstrukcję samego siebie jako dzieła sztuki wyjątkowego i niezbędnego.”
Rezydencja w Mazi Projects stworzyła przestrzeń dla spotkań, dialogu i głębszej refleksji nad kulturą ateńską, umożliwiając powstanie cyklu, który łączy lokalne środowisko z uniwersalnym tematem dandysyzmu.

ENG During my residency at Mazi Projects in Athens, organized by the Razem Pamoja Foundation, I created a series of paintings titled The Athenian Dandy. This cycle of portraits depicts residents of Athens who, through their appearance, lifestyle, or personal attitude, embody the notion of the dandy and reflect the phenomenon of dandyism in today’s urban context. The project explores the aesthetics of individuality, elegance, and eccentricity as forms of self- expression and cultural identity. The paintings intertwine observations of everyday life in Athens with an artistic interpretation of the dandy ideal, which oscillates between tradition, nonconformism, and personal stylization. As Françoise Coblence poignantly notes in Le dandysme. Obligation d’incertitude: “The dandy strives to bridge the uncertainty of the modern world through his exterior—by the daily construction of himself as a unique and essential work of art.”
The residency at Mazi Projects provided space for encounters, dialogue, and a deeper reflection on Athenian culture, allowing the creation of a series that connects the local environment with the universal theme of dandyism.
